Description of the course...

Start near Ormonde Castle...

...and up main street, a busy retail area during the day but quieter by evening time.

At 0.3 miles, the road drops away until you reach the next junction at 0.4 miles and then it's right on to O'Mahoney Avenue which is dead flat...

At the next junction at 0.5 miles, you go left and take the right behind the school ahead...

This quiet road goes through a residential area at first and then alongside the GAA pitch...

At about 0.8 miles, you join another road...

..and at about 0.9 miles with the park to your right, you take a left...

Now you begin the loop to the north. Almost straight away, the road begins to rise. You pass the mile mile mark just before the railway crossing...

The hill continues until roughly where the road bends to the right (pic below)......a tough 600m climb, by far the hardest part of the course.

From the bend, the road levels off with more gentle inclines and drops slightly to the next junction just after the 2 mile mark...

You are now on Deadman's Lane....a narrow country road. It starts with another climb about 400m long....

Then it levels off and Slievenamon appears in the distance. Along here, the inclines become a lot gentler...

...with the last hill at about 2.8 miles...

It's reasonably short and you join a busier road around the 3 mile mark....

The next mile is very fast indeed with a lot of downhill running. You re-enter the outskirts of the town just after the 4 mile mark and at the junction where the road comes to an end, you go left under the railway bridge at 4.4 miles...

After another 100m, you reach the junction near the school again and turn left...

You now follow the same route that that you ran on earlier. At about 4.8 miles, you continue straight ahead...

...and the finish line is up a small residential cul-de-sac on the left.

Overall.......It would probably be fair to describe it as a tough course. The first mile is fast, miles 2 and 3 have a lot of hills, mile 4 has plenty of fast downhill running and the last mile is mostly flat and fast. Probably not a course for personal best times but the course includes some quiet country roads.
