Preview of the Churchtown 10-mile race...

Location... The village of Churchtown is located just west of the N20 in north Cork. It's about 8kms south-west of Charleville and 6kms north-west of Buttevant.

Churchtown is located 4kms west of the N20 Cork - Limerick road.

Course... The 10-mile course is basically one loop to the north-east of Churchtown.

Course description....... The 10-mile course takes in a loop to the north-east of Churchtown.

The race starts on a quiet road about 800m to the west of Churchtown. In the village itself, it's a case of running past the first junction and then left at the next one. It looks like a pretty fast start.

After that, nearly all of the course is on quiet country roads with some small pulls.

The photo above is at the bridge over the River Awbeg at about the 4km mark. This gives a good idea of what the course is like... narrow quiet country roads... reasonably flat... mostly straight. All the things you'd want for a 10-mile course and a reasonably fast time.

If you look at the course map above with the contours, you'll notice that the contours are just 10-metres i.e. the hills are pretty small. The course is probably on a par with the likes of Dungarvan or Mallow.

The race finishes on the north side of Churchtown as it enters the village.

Overall...... Reasonably fast 10 mile course on quiet country roads.
