This 5km road race takes place in the town of Youghal in East Cork...
The course is on the eastern side of the town...
The race HQ is in the Youghal Community Centre. There is plenty of parking nearby.
See map below for the course. The race starts outside Bunscoil Mhuire and you do two and a half full loops of the town centre before finishing near the community Centre..
Course...The race starts near the roundabout. As you can see, it's dead flat....
After about 300m, you come to the start of the loop...
This brings you onto South Main Street as you head back on the eastern leg...
You'll run under the iconic Youghal Clock Tower three times...
Past the main post office...
Right onto Dolphin Square...
...and right again and through the the back of the town......
You pass Fishermans Quay...
The race passes the famous pub named the Moby Dick after the 1956 film of the same name starring Gregory Peck and directed by John Huston.
Just beyond the Moby Dick pub is the tourist office...
Past the town hall...
...and then the road narrows as it begins to climb. This is the only 'hill' on the course but it is more of a minor drag than anything serious. You really shouldn't lose too much time on it.
At about the 2.2km mark, you complete the loop and you turn right...
Another view...
After passing under the clock tower for the third and final time, the race will finish near the AIB bank with the community centre just beyond...
Overall......A 5km road race through the streets of Youghal on what is a pretty flat course. Expect to set a fast time.
